ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

<h1>History is the mother of other social science. The Department of History of the college started its glorious journey in 1992 with a hand full of students in jangalmahal area. The Department was initiated by the first two teachers, namely&nbsp; Prof. Hitesh Ranjan Mondal, Prof. Pradip Ghosh. At that time, Principal of this college was Prof. Shakti Charan Dey from the History department. Over the years the number of students increased. Intake capacity of the Hons course is now increased to 90. More than 70% of students of this college come from poorest, SC/ST/OBC or first generation learner family. Department has took some decisions in favour of the students so that they do not lag behind the students of other colleges. &nbsp;Eg</h1>
<ul>
<li>A departmental library has been set up for the students so that they do not require to buy books. &nbsp;It was developed with the help of students, teachers and college authority. At present, departmental library has 600 books. Every student can access book at free of cost. Our respected teacher Prof. Satyaranjan Ghosh, Associate Professor of History Midnapur College (Autonomous) donated many reference books which enriched our departmental library.</li>
<li>Free remedial coaching has been arranged in the department so that the students do not have to go for tuition outside.</li>
<li>The department introduced a wall Magazines &ldquo;SUCHANA&rdquo; by our students on historical events and current affairs and published every year.</li>
<li>The students of the department established beautiful flower garden &ldquo;NIVEDITA GARDEN&rdquo; and it is maintained by our students and faculty members.</li>
<li>We celebrate birthdays of great persons and their life practices are discussed. &nbsp;We think that students can inspire from the biography of great personalities.</li>
<li>Two class rooms have been converted into ICT mode with the help of the departmental students, teachers and college authority.</li>
<li>We arrange short educational tour or excursion every year to different historical sites/place to ensure more intimate connectivity.</li>
<li>Faculty members are engaged in various college and social works.</li>
<li>State/national/international level seminars have been arranged by the department every year. Sources of history and issues of the problem and prospects of prevention of the past in history are discussed in the seminar.</li>
<li>We arrange students&rsquo; seminar to improve the art of expression and greater interaction.</li>
<li>We use visual slides and photographs in the special paper classes.</li>
<li>We do project work for the students on the socio-economic status and culture of the local people.</li>
<li>Every year we arrange many cultural programmes and also arrange teacher-students meeting, parent&ndash;teacher meeting, Alumni meet, fresher&rsquo;s&ndash;welcome. Teachers-Students sports etc.</li>
<li>Manmatha Nath Shit memorial award is given to the highest number recipient in VU exam every year to encourage students. Students are rewarded by the department for highest attendance.</li>
<li>We have formed mentor and mentee group for the convenience of the students.</li>
<li>The result of the department in both Hons and General courses in VU exam are highly satisfactory.</li>
